INTRODUCTION
Designing a chair for the Andreu World International Design Contest, this project explores how a single seat can embody the competition’s core values of sustainability, innovation, and long-lasting quality. Framed by the 2025 theme “Manufacturing a Better World,” the concept focuses on circular design principles, from material selection and construction to durability and end-of-life reuse.
MOODBOARD
This moodboard, inspired by FJC Studio, captures light‑filled, sculptural interiors with soft curves, warm timber, and clean white surfaces. These references guide a chair that feels integrated into contemporary public spaces—welcoming, minimal, and quietly expressive.
IDEATION
The ideation phase generates quick sketch and 3D explorations of NOVA, testing different forms and structures to find the most coherent direction for the chair.
CHOSEN DESIGN
The chair concept is fully 3D modeled and rendered to refine proportions, materials, and lighting, providing a realistic view of how it will appear in real spaces before prototyping
DESIGN REFINEMENT
This stage refines the chair’s comfort and stability by adding supportive wing cuts to the backrest, removing the central oval to simplify the silhouette, and redesigning the leg attachments for a more secure structural connection.
TECHNICAL DRAWING
PROTOTYPE
This 1:5 scale prototype combines CNC‑cut plywood ribs to define the chair’s continuous curve with hand‑applied upholstery that forms both the seat cushions and the seamless textile shell, testing how structure and softness work together in the design.
FINAL RENDERING
The final KeyShot renderings present the chair with photorealistic materials, lighting, and shadows, communicating how its upholstered shell and oakwood base would appear in a real environment.
Upholstery Material: ABERLOUR CUZ1J (BLAZER)
